The above is the first line from the theme song of the '80s hit sitcom Growing Pains. It fits what we're going through right now. We're currently enjoying what has become the best summer for Makossa attendance-wise since we started six summers ago. We owe a debt of gratitude to you guys who keep coming through and spreading the word. Much love to all of you.
Either you heard about what happened in May, you were there to experience it or you were one of the couple hundred people who were waiting outside as we low key shut down Troutman St in Bushwick. The turnout was absolutely amazing. It was quite an experience. So much so that we were unceremoniously shut down early. Onward and upward, though.
The day after the May edition, the whole crew put their heads together to figure things out. And thankfully, we have. After countless emails and advice from homies, we've decided to things a little different this month. The biggest difference -- we're going indoors. We know, that sounds a little crazy for a summer day time party. You want to be out in the sun, right? But hear us out.
Verboten, one of the largest and best venues in Brooklyn will play home to Makossa this month. Capacity is our biggest priority and we want to fit damn near ALL of you into the party. Problem solved. The club is equipped with multiple skylights to allow the sun to shine in. We'll be taking over the entire club for nine hours. There will still be a "cookout" (you'll see what we mean), there will still be all of the great music you've come to expect from us (the sound system is incredible) and best of all, it'll still be NO COVER. You comin' through or what?
2015 marks the Makossa Brooklyn Cookout entering its sixth consecutive summer. Still considered one of the best outdoor summer soirees in Brooklyn (and officially voted one of the 20 Best Summertime Parties in NYC by Time Out New York in 2014), Wonway Posibul of Latin Soul Brothers links up with NYC-based event promotion team Rare Form to bring his famous Makossa sound from San Francisco to NYC to create a bi-coastal vibe like none other. The monthly cookouts have garnered a loyal following, a multitude of acclaim and success since its birthplace, the backyard of Fresthetic, a boutique / gallery in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
